Observations About the Booth!
Seeing the Cinder Peak Phone Booth, aka the Mojave Phone Booth, is like stepping into the
Twilight Zone. The sturdy, old booth was first installed over 50 years ago when
miners worked the nearby mine.
All of the glass has been shot out of the booth. It's all open to the air and elements. But, then again, most phone booths today have no glass anyway! Most don't even have a roof like this one does.
Reports are that the booth was vandalized in early November, 1999 when someone removed the receiver. It was repaired before we arrived, reportedly around November 10.
